Interesting Facts
The origins of Cremona mustard, as its name suggests, are in preparations made with grape must (mustum ardens), which, cooked and concentrated, was consumed in its natural state or with the addition of mustard. Adding must allowed fruits or vegetables to be preserved for a long time. For this reason, it enjoyed considerable success in medieval and Renaissance kitchens throughout Europe, where every means was used to prevent food from spoiling. Over the following centuries, the connection between mustard and grape must faded, resulting in the product we know today, whose basic ingredients first appeared in its definitive form in the 19th century.
